CARBAMIDE PEROXIDE VS. HYDROGEN PEROXIDE
If you want to have white teeth and you start to look for the right kit to use, you may be seeing a lot about Carbamide Peroxide and Hydrogen Peroxide teeth whiteners. Each component plays an important role in whitening teeth wherein the ones you use depends on which method you choose to use to whiten your teeth. The peroxides are usually found in the do-it-yourself trays and kits that you can buy over the counter and at almost any store.
Since the beginning of the teeth whitening idea in 1989, there have been many analysis to make sure that the ingredients in the solution is safe. The two main ingredients found in teeth whitening system is Carbamide Peroxide and Hydrogen Peroxide. What is the difference between the two?
Carbamide peroxide is also known as urea hydrogen peroxide. It combines urea and hydrogen peroxide together to form one compound. Carbamide peroxide is used to remove stains from tooth enamel. Carbamide Peroxide is safe as long as it is not concentrated into a formula anymore than 44%. It has been proven that using 44 percent causes little to no damage to the hardness and the mineral content found on the enamel surface of the teeth.
On the other hand, Hydrogen peroxide is created with hydrogen and oxygen. Hydrogen peroxide has many uses: antiseptic, household agent, and teeth whitening agent. Although hydrogen peroxide is so effective, it also has several side effects, especially if used to whiten teeth. It can cause the teeth to become more sensitive and can irritate the mouth and the gums if not use properly. As long as it is used in moderation, it is effective and also recommended by dentists.
When using hydrogen peroxide to whiten your teeth, there are a few exceptions to the rule. If you have teeth that has been filled with colored fillings or if you have porcelain teeth, teeth covered with any type of material including gold, you will not be able to see results on those teeth with the use of hydrogen peroxide. The peroxide cannot soak through the material and they still remain the same color they are now.
There are various differences between Carbamide Peroxide and Hydrogen Peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide is used more often by dentists as it is stronger and more effective. It can speed up the whitening process at a faster rate. Carbamide peroxide is safe as long as it is used at a lower dosage, however, it is not as effective when it is at the safe amount. Carbamide peroxide is also found in most home whitening kits because it is safe to use.
Without the proper balance of either Carbamide Peroxide and Hydrogen Peroxide there is no way that you can achieve whiter teeth at home.
Before you purchase a teeth whitening kit over the counter, you need to make sure that you check the active ingredients. You need to have the peroxides working to help you whiten your teeth. Keep in mind, it is the hydrogen peroxide that is most effective. If you are in doubt, call your dentist or make an appointment to speak to them regarding whitening kits at home.
